What is Bitmoji?
Bitmoji lets users create a personal cartoon avatar that auto-generates as a sticker library across iMessage, Snapchat, Gmail, and elsewhere.
How does Bitmoji work?
Sign in (often with Snap), customize the avatar, then export stickers system-wide. Snapchat integration is the main use — Bitmojis appear on the Snap Map showing your child's avatar at their location.
What parents need to know
- Bitmoji shares your account with Snapchat by default.
- Snap Map can display your child's Bitmoji at their real-time location to all friends.
- Sticker library includes some suggestive or romantic stickers.
- Avatars can look uncomfortably realistic for very young children.
Serious risks & safety concerns
Location via Snap Map
Your child's Bitmoji becomes their pin on Snap Map. Anyone on their friends list (which may include strangers) can see their location.
Suggestive sticker content
Some stickers depict romantic, drinking, or party themes that don't match the cartoony first impression.
Parental controls available
No standalone parental controls. Set Snap Map to "Ghost Mode" in the Snapchat app to prevent location sharing.
How MyParentalControls covers Bitmoji
MyParentalControls inspects Bitmoji stickers sent or received in monitored chats, so suggestive sticker conversations don't slip past you.
Bottom line
OK at any age, but only with Snap Map set to Ghost Mode.
